UNCOVERING CHRISTIAN HERITAGE
The current conflicts in the Arab region have taken a toll on Middle Eastern Christianity and how its history is perceived.
Many people ignore Christians’ historical contributions to the arts, history, philosophy, and architecture, as well as to medicine and other sciences.
A new program called House of Wisdom is set to air on SAT-7 ARABIC in the second half of 2017. The program will discuss the Middle East’s rich Christian heritage and explain the historical influence of Christians in the region.
“The aim of the program is to emphasise the pivotal role played by Arab Christians in building Arab culture,” says Producer Sherif Wahba.
House of Wisdom, or in Arabic, Beit El Hekma, was the name of a cultural centre established by the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad. It was an intellectual and cultural hub where many Christian scholars translated books from Greek and other languages to Arabic.
