SUPPORTING CHRISTIANS IN THE WORLD’S MOST HOSTILE PLACES
Eighteen countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) feature in the 2024 World Watch List that highlights the 50 most difficult places in the world for Christians. SAT-7 is strengthening believers across the region as they face persecution and oppression, through discipleship programs on satellite TV and social media, and by offering prayer and pastoral support.
SURVEY REVEALS VIEWS OF IRANIAN AND AFGHAN VIEWERS
After many months of nationwide protests in Iran under the slogan “Woman. Life. Freedom”, SAT-7 surveyed viewers in the country about their views on women’s rights and religious freedom. The survey, which also included responses from viewers in Afghanistan, will inform the new season of Insiders, a program that advocates for gender equality and Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB).
Earthquakes compound suffering of Afghan people
More than two years of Taliban rule have brought economic turmoil, gender-based discrimination, widespread crime and drug use, and a growing humanitarian crisis to the people of Afghanistan. But for some communities, the most intense suffering was yet to come. A series of earthquakes and aftershocks in the west of the country have destroyed entire villages and claimed over 2,000 lives.
THE TALIBAN TAKEOVER TWO YEARS ON
“In the last two years, so many things have changed. Life in Afghanistan is very difficult now – there is no education, no work, and all our suffering is because of those two things. There is a lot of anxiety. If [women] go out they are inappropriately questioned.”
Iranian and Afghan families share their thoughts on emigration
It can be hard to understand exactly what it means and how it feels for Middle Eastern families who are forced to relocate. There is no substitute for hearing first-hand accounts, of course, which is why we have compiled the stories of some SAT-7 PARS viewers who have emigrated. We hope these testimonies will inform your prayers, strengthen your faith, and increase your compassion for migrants.
AFGHANISTAN: A MAJOR RESPONSE TO A MAJOR CRISIS
The crisis in Afghanistan is so widespread and has escalated so rapidly that it is scarcely believable. Economically, the country is on its knees, with an extra 15 million Afghans pushed into poverty since 2020. Socially, there is intense pressure on vulnerable groups. SAT-7, seeking to make God’s love visible in the region, has stepped up its programming for Afghans in recent months.
Change and freedom for women
“In our community, we agreed that our daughter will marry our neighbour once she’s mature. But when I saw the early marriage clip, and I remembered what happened to me, I gained a little bit of strength to fight for my daughter and stop what happened to me happening to her.”
DREAMING OF CHRIST IN AFGHANISTAN
Faraj*, an Afghan viewer, recently reached out to SAT-7 PARS, with a testimony of hope and a desire to become a Christian. Sharing his experiences of living in a community surrounded by deception and conflict, where love is scarce and poverty and lack are all that is known, Faraj describes how his life was transformed through a special encounter in his dreams.
