A MONTH OF TURMOIL AND A WEEK OF PRAYER
Is it a coincidence that SAT-7’s annual Week of Prayer took place during a time of so much turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa? As conflicts and tensions rose in the region, SAT-7 led hundreds of believers from around the world in prayer.
October 2019 started with Turkey’s military operations in Syria – civilians were killed, and thousands were displaced. In Algeria, four churches were forcefully closed, and church leaders arrested, leaving congregations worshipping on the streets. Mass protests in Lebanon have brought the country to a standstill. These events demonstrate the urgent need for dedicated prayer for the people living in the Middle East and North Africa, making SAT-7’s Week of Prayer particularly timely.
A GLOBAL RESPONSE
For SAT-7’s annual Week of Prayer, held this year from 20-27 October, hundreds of Christians across the world were united in prayer, as they focused on themes highlighted by the current affairs in the Middle East and North Africa. Individuals and church groups responded with thanksgiving, prayer, and praise. This was immensely encouraging to the SAT-7 staff, who also joined together from across the world, to pray as one family via video calls.
TAKING ACTION TO MAKE A LONG-TERM CHANGE
SAT-7 exists to serve the people of the Middle East and North Africa through relevant and encouraging Christian programming, sharing the message of God’s love and hope in the midst of turmoil and disillusionment.
These programs are having a long-term positive impact on individuals and societies. For Christian minorities continuing to face discrimination and even persecution, SAT-7 is producing programming specifically about freedom of religion and belief, such as Insiders and Needle and New Thread. Programs for women show viewers their God-given worth, youth programs teach Christian values, and Bible teaching programs enable isolated Christians to grow in their faith.
THANK YOU
SAT-7’s Week of Prayer was a blessed time in which we were challenged to Dare to Dream with, and for, the people of the Middle East and North Africa. We are grateful to everyone who participated, and for faithfully praying with us.
Although the Week of Prayer is over, the problems the people in the MENA face are not. Please continue praying and supporting us. Pray that God will use SAT-7 to make His love visible, and change lives.
